Successful Carpentry Skills and Training for Ethelred Residents
We teamed up with The Michael Tippett College which caters for students with special educational needs on an exciting WatWorks community initiative which aimed to provide residents, students and local people living in Lambeth with an opportunity to learn new carpentry skills so that they can fulfil their potential and increase their chances of work.
In November, we started a six week carpentry skills workshop which has been a great success. We had a total of eight people participate in the carpentry skills workshop, four residents from Ethelred estate were joined by four students with special educational needs (SEN) from the college.
Both residents and students were trained by qualified teachers from the college and have already started to put their new carpentry skills to use by building raised garden beds and benches that everyone can use and enjoy in our community garden.
The raised garden beds built on this workshop will regularly be used for planting by local residents and volunteers in daily life and for upcoming community action days.
Our partnership with The Michael Tippett College, is the first time we have worked together with a college to deliver a skills training programme, which has helped our local residents to boost their skills and confidence, realise their potential and prepare to get into work to improve their lives and future. Residents can now take the next step to start an apprenticeship or progress their training to kick start a trade in carpentry.
We would like to congratulate our residents that successfully completed the workshop.
This initiative has been funded by Incredible Edible Lambeth as part of our Grow Back Greener project.
For you. For better. For all, together.
